Course Overview
This 1-day intermediate-level technical course explains and discusses the architecture and design of the radio frequency (RF) and intermediate frequency (IF) stages of TV receivers designed to receive a range of analogue and digital TV standards.

Who Will Benefit?
The course is aimed at electronic and software engineers who have little previous experience of TV front-end systems and require a detailed introduction to subject. Although the course relates directly to the RF aspects of TV system design, it will provide important understanding for engineers and managers working in any area of TV development.

  • Understand the architecture of an advanced 'front-end' design
  • Explain how a TV tuner works
  • Explain the need for different IF filtering for different standards and how this can be achieved
  • Understand analogue TV vision and sound demodulation
  • Understand when and how IF conversion is done for digital TV
  • Explain the need for automatic gain control and how it should be applied for each system IF
  • Understand what a typical IF processing IC does

Prerequisites
Participants would normally be qualified to degree level or equivalent in an electronic engineering, physics or mathematics-related subject. Ideally, but not essentially, they should have attended an introductory course on DVB transmission or have equivalent experience. Participants should have an appreciation of basic analogue signal processing.

Intermediate: Assumes the participant has general knowledge of the subject and professional experience of the specific areas covered.
